Blumhouse’s ‘Dead by Daylight’ Movie Taps ‘The Damned’ Director to Helm Adaptation

Blumhouse and Atomic Monster have officially found a director for their upcoming Dead by Daylight film adaptation, revealed during the game’s 10th anniversary celebrations.

The Damned filmmaker Thordur Palsson has been tapped to direct the project, producers Jason Blum and Stephen Mulrooney announced on stage.

“There is no better moment than the tenth anniversary to share this news,” said Blum. “Thordur is the filmmaker we trust to carry Dead by Daylight from the screen you play on to the big screen you watch in theaters.”

Palsson said his focus will be capturing the game’s core tension. “The main thing is capturing the feeling of playing Dead by Daylight—looking over your shoulder, the dread, the fear of what’s waiting for you in The Fog.”

The adaptation is being penned by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (The Conjuring 2, Aquaman) with The Hills Have Eyes and Crawl director Alexandre Aja also attached to the project.

Based on Behaviour Interactive’s hit asymmetrical multiplayer horror game, Dead by Daylight pits survivors against iconic slashers and original killers from across the horror genre.

The film is expected to feature key locations from the game, including The MacMillan Estate and Greenville, with production currently slated to begin in 2027.
