‘SOULM8TE’ Trailer: Blumhouse’s Twisted AI Horror Spin-Off Arrives on Digital Soon
Blumhouse and Atomic Monster are ready to introduce a new kind of nightmare companion.
After multiple delays, SOULM8TE is finally heading home, bringing a deadly mix of artificial intelligence, obsession, and erotic thriller chaos to Digital platforms on August 1, 2026, through Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.
Set in the world of M3GAN, the upcoming spinoff stars Lily Sullivan (Evil Dead Rise, Monolith) alongside Claudia Doumit (The Boys) and David Rysdahl.
Described as a ’90s-inspired erotic thriller with a modern technological twist, SOULM8TE explores what happens when the search for connection becomes something far more dangerous.
The film follows a man (Rysdahl) who purchases an artificially intelligent android (Sullivan) to help him cope with the loss of his wife. But when he attempts to transform the machine into a truly sentient partner, he accidentally creates something much more terrifying — a lovebot that becomes a deadly soulmate.
Kate Dolan (You Are Not My Mother) directs the film, rewriting an original screenplay by Rafael Jordan based on a story from James Wan, Ingrid Bisu, and Jordan.
Dolan says the film explores the strange modern relationship between technology and human connection.
“When Blumhouse Atomic Monster first approached me about an erotic thriller set in the M3GAN-verse, I thought, are you insane? But something drew me in,” Dolan explained.
She added that SOULM8TE examines how apps, algorithms, and artificial intelligence promise connection while potentially making people more isolated.
“SOULM8TE is a movie about that vicious cycle,” Dolan said, describing the film as a satirical and unhinged exploration of desire, obsession, autonomy, and control.
Producer and Blumhouse Atomic Monster CEO Jason Blum praised Dolan’s approach, saying the filmmaker blended technology paranoia with erotic thriller elements while creating a movie that has more beneath the surface than audiences might expect.
The new trailer introduces a more mature and dangerous AI companion, trading the childlike terror of M3GAN for a darker story aimed at adult audiences.
SOULM8TE is rated R for “strong violence, gore, sexual content, graphic nudity, and language.”
The film arrives on Digital August 1, 2026.
