The children of The Institute aren’t done running.

While Mike Flanagan is bringing his own take on Stephen King’s Carrie to screens, another King adaptation is preparing to return with more supernatural horror. “The Institute” Season 2 is officially coming this fall on MGM+, and the first-look images offer a glimpse at what’s waiting for the survivors.

MGM+ has yet to announce an exact premiere date, but the second season will consist of eight episodes.

Based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel, The Institute follows Luke Ellis, a teenage genius who is kidnapped and wakes up inside a mysterious facility filled with other children who have been taken from their homes. Each of them possesses unusual abilities, including telekinesis.

Meanwhile, former police officer Tim Jamieson arrives in a nearby town hoping to start over. His quiet new life doesn’t last long, however, as his path eventually becomes intertwined with Luke and the horrors unfolding at The Institute.

The Escape Was Only the Beginning

Season 2 will pick up after the events of the first season finale, which revealed that the Institute wasn’t an isolated operation. The survivors discovered that similar facilities exist around the world, suggesting that the conspiracy is far bigger than they initially imagined.

With the escapees now free but being hunted, their fight is far from over.

Stephen King himself previously celebrated the renewal, teasing what’s ahead:

“Set free but hunted, new dangers await the escapees from the Institute, and I can’t wait.”

The series comes from director and executive producer Jack Bender (From, Mr. Mercedes) and writer and executive producer Benjamin Cavell (Justified, The Stand), both of whom have extensive experience adapting dark and suspenseful material.

Returning for Season 2 are Mary-Louise Parker as Ms. Sigsby, Ben Barnes as Tim Jamieson, Joe Freeman as Luke Ellis, Simone Miller as Kalisha, Fionn Laird as Nick, Hannah Galway as Wendy, Julian Richings as Stackhouse, Robert Joy as Dr. Hendricks, and Martin Roach as Chief Ashworth.

Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones, The Predator) is also joining the cast for the new season.

The first batch of images gives fans a look at Allen, Barnes, and Parker as the story moves into its next chapter.

The Institute Season 2 premieres this fall on MGM+. An exact release date has yet to be announced.
