A terrifying mystery is rising from the depths in Netflix’s upcoming horror series Below, and the first teaser trailer has arrived. Created by Jesse McKeown (The Umbrella Academy), the six-episode limited series brings a monstrous threat to the isolated waters of Newfoundland this October.

The series stars Josh Hartnett as a hardened fisherman who finds himself fighting to protect his family and his remote coastal community when a mysterious sea creature begins terrorizing the town.

Joining Hartnett are Charlie Heaton, Mackenzie Davis, Rohan Campbell, Ruby Stokes, Kaleb Horn, and Willow Kean.

In the series, Hartnett’s character Calvin teams up with marine researcher Fonda (Mackenzie Davis) to uncover the truth behind the creature lurking beneath the waves while also discovering the hidden history of their island home. Their search reveals that the community has been plagued by strange events and unexplained tragedies for generations.

McKeown explains that the harsh realities of Newfoundland’s history helped shape the series, with deadly storms, maritime disasters, economic collapse, and brutal winters creating an atmosphere where survival itself can feel like a horror story.

The creator also cites the influence of legendary filmmakers Steven Spielberg and John Carpenter, blending creature-feature terror with the isolation and suspense that defined some of their most iconic works.

With a mysterious monster, a remote setting, and a battle for survival against an unknown force, Below looks ready to deliver a deep-sea nightmare when it premieres on Netflix on October 8, 2026.
