Curry Barker Teases ‘Obsession 2’ Idea, But Sequel Likely Years Away

Curry Barker’s Obsession continues its unstoppable box office run, now closing in on $300 million worldwide as it keeps drawing audiences week after week. With that level of success, a sequel feels less like a question of “if” and more like “when.”

Barker has previously suggested expanding Obsession into an anthology series built around the mysterious One Wish Willow, though fans shouldn’t expect a follow-up anytime soon.

Speaking to Total Film in May, he said, “I do see Obsession 2 happening, maybe. Or even… an anthology. Like a one-hour episode where each story is a different wish that goes completely off the rails.”

Now, in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Barker admits he’s still weighing his next move. “I have a lot to weigh and that’s where the stress really comes from. I don’t know what to do next,” he said.

He added that while he does have an idea for Obsession 2, he’s in no rush to make it. “I don’t want to go straight into Obsession 2. I have such a cool idea for it that I won’t say. It doesn’t have to be five or six years from now, but I think people would still be excited for it later. It’s a whirlwind and I’m trying to figure it out.”

For now, Barker’s rise in Hollywood continues at full speed. Following the surprise success of Obsession, he’s become one of the industry’s most in-demand new voices. His next project, the paranormal comedy Anything But Ghosts, has already wrapped filming.

He’s also been tapped to help steer the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise, with plans to bring back the raw intensity of Tobe Hooper’s original.
