The gripping zombie series “Black Summer” made its return to Netflix with its second season on June 17, 2021. However, nearly three years have passed since any updates surfaced regarding the series, leading to speculation about the fate of “Black Summer” Season 3.

A recent report from What’s on Netflix suggests that the series has indeed been cancelled. The site notes, “Black Summer was expected to have been ghost-canceled last year, but finally, we’ve got confirmation that the series won’t be returning for a third outing on Netflix.”

This development aligns with a tweet from series creator John Hyams (known for “Sick”) in April 2023, where he responded with a simple “Sadly, nah” when asked about the possibility of “Black Summer” Season 3. It appears that the decision to conclude the series has now been definitively made.

“Black Summer,” created by Hyams and Karl Schaefer, is a spinoff of the series “Z Nation.” Set in the early days of a zombie apocalypse, the show features Jaime King as Rose, a mother on a quest to reunite with her daughter. Alongside a small group of American refugees, these strangers must summon the strength to navigate through the challenges and reunite with their loved ones.

In Season 2, the narrative introduced new cold-blooded challenges during the zombie apocalypse, showcasing frantic scavengers and violent militias battling the undead and facing desperate circumstances.

Reflecting on the cancellation, Felix Vasquez Jr. expressed on BD last summer, “The zombie series has so much potential to continue to raise the bar for the sub-genre. Black Summer is a series that deserves to go out on its own terms, or at the very least complete its entire arc. Unfortunately, that notion has become a luxury that TV junkies just aren’t afforded anymore.”
