Netflix has released the first official trailer for The Whisper Man, a chilling new serial killer thriller arriving on the streaming service later this month.

Based on Alex North’s bestselling 2019 novel, The Whisper Man premieres on Netflix on August 28 and features a powerhouse cast led by Adam Scott, Michelle Monaghan, and Robert De Niro.

The film follows a widowed crime writer whose eight-year-old son is kidnapped. Desperate for answers, he turns to his estranged father—a retired detective—for help. Their search uncovers disturbing links to a decades-old case involving the infamous serial killer known only as The Whisper Man.

Joining the trio is an impressive supporting cast that includes Michael Keaton, John Carroll Lynch, Hamish Linklater, Owen Teague, Will Brill, and Acston Luca Porto.

The film is directed by James Ashcroft (The Rule of Jenny Pen) from a screenplay by Ben Jacoby (The First Omen) and Chase Palmer (IT). Producing duties are handled by AGBO’s Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco, and Kassee Whiting.

The MPAA has given The Whisper Man an R rating for bloody violence, disturbing images, suicide, strong language, and brief sexual references.

With an acclaimed source novel, an all-star cast, and a haunting premise, The Whisper Man is shaping up to be one of Netflix’s biggest horror-thriller releases of the summer.
