Netflix is returning to R.L. Stine’s Fear Street universe with a new movie, as confirmed by the author himself. The upcoming film, based on Stine’s 1992 book “Fear Street: The Prom Queen,” is set to go into production soon. Stine shared the news on Twitter, expressing his excitement about the upcoming project and assuring fans that it’s good news.

Previously reported by What’s on Netflix, the new movie, titled “Fear Street: Prom Queen,” is described as a stand-alone feature. It is not expected to feature characters from the Fear Street trilogy released on Netflix in 2021, which was directed by Leigh Janiak.

Stine’s “The Prom Queen” follows a chilling narrative set during a high school prom night. The synopsis introduces a seemingly romantic setting with a soft moonlight and beautiful Prom Queen candidates. However, the atmosphere takes a dark turn as a series of brutal murders unfold during the event. Protagonist Lizzie McVay becomes aware that she may be the next target on the murderer’s list, leading to a suspenseful race against time to uncover the truth.

Netflix’s Fear Street trilogy, released in the summer of 2021, explored a cohesive story across three weekends of release:

1. “Fear Street Part One: 1994” – Teenage friends accidentally encounter an ancient evil responsible for a series of brutal murders in their town spanning over 300 years.
2. “Fear Street Part Two: 1978” – Set in Shadyside during 1978, the film revolves around the ominous events at Camp Nightwing during summer vacation, turning a fun-filled time into a fight for survival.
3. “Fear Street Part Three: 1666” – The origins of Sarah Fier’s curse are unveiled, bringing the narrative full circle and changing the lives of Shadysiders forever.

With the success of the Fear Street trilogy, anticipation is high for the new standalone installment, “Fear Street: Prom Queen,” as it continues to explore the horror-filled world crafted by R.L. Stine.
