Kane Parsons Hints at Possible Backrooms Sequel and TV Series Expansion

Published

Kane Parsons may be on the verge of becoming horror’s next breakout filmmaker as Backrooms heads toward its May 29 theatrical release — and early tracking is already pointing to a potential $20 million-plus opening weekend.

The upcoming film expands on Parsons’ massively viral Backrooms videos, which took over the internet and turned the 20-year-old creator into one of the most talked-about new voices in horror. What started as a found footage nightmare inspired by the internet’s eerie liminal space myth has now evolved into a full-scale studio release backed by A24.

And A24 clearly seems interested in building more than just a one-off movie.

The studio has recently been leaning harder into franchise horror, especially by collaborating with younger filmmakers and online creators who already come with built-in fanbases. Upcoming projects tied to the company include the Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake and a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre film and television project.

Now, Backrooms could be next in line for a much bigger expansion.

As excitement around the film continues to grow, fans have already started speculating about sequels — and Parsons himself may have quietly confirmed that those ideas are already being explored.

Over the weekend, Parsons responded to a fan online and revealed that he has ideas for both a Backrooms limited series and a possible sequel film. While nothing official has been announced yet, the comments strongly suggest that the universe could continue far beyond the upcoming movie.

Considering the direction A24 has been moving lately, turning Backrooms into a larger horror franchise honestly feels inevitable at this point.

We’ll find out soon enough when the film finally arrives later this month.
