‘Goblin’ – Will Forte Joins A24’s Raunchy New Monster Horror Movie
A24 is getting ready to unleash a very unusual little monster.
Described as “Ted meets E.T.”, David Mikalson’s outrageous buddy comedy Goblin is officially taking shape, with Will Forte (The Four Seasons) reportedly in talks to join the cast.
The news was first reported by Deadline.
Kenneth Branagh is set to voice the titular Goblin, who is described as green-colored—and, apparently, anatomically correct. Superman star Skyler Gisondo is also attached to play the Goblin’s human best friend.
While Goblin is not being billed as a horror movie, its bizarre premise and practical creature design may appeal to fans of oddball creature features such as A Gnome Named Gnorm and the recent Frankie Freako.
The film began as an independent passion project from Mikalson, who set out to create an outrageous buddy comedy about a goblin using a practical puppet and working outside the traditional Hollywood system. The script quickly attracted representation, and A24 ultimately stepped in to finance the feature.
According to Deadline, Mikalson had already spent his own money creating the practical Goblin puppet when A24 acquired the project and agreed to give the film a significantly larger budget.
And if you’re wondering what this anatomically correct little creature might actually look like, a bizarre cake commissioned by Mikalson for his representatives may offer the first glimpse.
The cake was created by Marc Gravelle at Cake Art in West Hollywood as a thank-you for helping Mikalson bring his dream project to life.
We still don’t know exactly what kind of chaos Goblin has in store—but with a practical monster, Will Forte, Kenneth Branagh, and A24 involved, this could be one very strange movie to keep an eye on.
