The demons of The Further are coming back—and this time, they may be coming with them.

The sixth installment in the Insidious franchise, Insidious: Out of the Further, has officially received its rating from the Motion Picture Association. As with every previous movie in the series, the latest chapter has been rated PG-13.

The film received the rating for “strong violent content, bloody images, terror and some strong language.”

Insidious: Out of the Further will haunt theaters on August 21, with Sony Pictures and Blumhouse-Atomic Monster behind the latest entry.

As the title suggests, the new film will explore what happens when the entities of The Further begin spilling into the real world.

The story follows Gemma, a young mother raising her daughter in the home where she grew up. After discovering that she can travel into The Further—the purgatorial realm of lost souls at the center of the Insidious universe—Gemma learns that her ability comes with a terrifying twist.

She doesn’t just enter The Further.

She can bring its inhabitants back with her.

When the demons discover what she can do, the real world becomes their playground.

Franchise favorite Lin Shaye returns as Elise Rainier, joining Amelia Eve (The Haunting of Bly Manor), Brandon Perea (Nope), Island Austin, and Maisie Richardson-Sellers (Legends of Tomorrow).

Sam Spruell (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms) plays Cyrus, a new malevolent entity who has already left quite an impression on the cast.

“He was truly scary,” Shaye previously teased. “When I met him on the street, I had a visceral response, which was crazy.”

According to Shaye, Out of the Further introduces an entirely new collection of characters—and new ideas—to the franchise.

Jacob Chase (Come Play) writes and directs the film, with story credit shared by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (The Conjuring: Last Rites, Orphan).

David Garbett (Evil Dead Rise) serves as director of photography.

The film is produced by Jason Blum, Oren Peli, James Wan, and Leigh Whannell. Johnson-McGoldrick, Ryan Turek, Steven Schneider, and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones serve as executive producers.

Insidious: Out of the Further opens in theaters August 21, 2026.
