André Øvredal is back behind the wheel of terror, and his latest nightmare, Passenger, is speeding toward theaters in just over a month. We’ve got your exclusive first look at the film—and things are already looking grim.

Paramount Pictures has been quietly stoking anticipation by keeping the teaser trailer locked to theaters, letting tension build the old-school way. Now, the first official images have finally surfaced online, offering a glimpse at the dread lurking on this open road.

Passenger crashes into theaters nationwide on May 22, 2026.

The setup is simple—but vicious: a young couple deep into their van life escape witnesses a brutal accident that leaves a man dead. What follows isn’t shock… it’s pursuit. Something demonic latches onto them, a relentless force that doesn’t tire, doesn’t stop, and can’t be outrun.

Øvredal describes the film as a collision of genres that hooked him instantly. “It’s a road movie—that’s what I really fell in love with,” he explains. “It’s totally unique for me as a horror film. It bridges that sense of movement with a haunting that never lets go.”

And if you’re wondering how far he pushes it this time? According to the director, Passenger may be his most punishing ride yet. “I think it’s the scariest movie I’ve made,” he teases.

He’s already tested it on crowds—and the reaction is exactly what you’d hope for. “Watching audiences jump has been a riot,” Øvredal adds. “I’m very proud of this one.”

The cast features Jacob Scipio, Lou Llobell, Melissa Leo, Tony Doupe, Bonni Dichone, Devielle Johnson, and Jessica Cruz.

The script comes from Zachary Donohue (The Den) and T. W. Burgess (Mister Howl). Producing duties fall to Walter Hamada—the force behind The Conjuring and It franchises—through his 18hz banner, alongside Gary Dauberman via Coin Operated.
