Just one day after finally speaking out about Scream 7, Melissa Barrera is already stepping back into horror with a brand new supernatural nightmare.

According to Variety, Barrera (Abigail, Your Monster) is set to star in Inhabit, an upcoming psychological horror film written and directed by Adam Alleca, the screenwriter behind the 2009 remake of The Last House on the Left.

Described as a mix of psychological horror and relentless supernatural terror, Inhabit will explore themes of trauma, motherhood, and dangerous power that pushes reality to its breaking point.

The story follows a young woman trying to rebuild her life after a devastating traumatic event. She moves into a decaying apartment complex hoping for a fresh start, but quickly finds herself trapped in a waking nightmare. Strange neighbors, violent encounters, eerie stalkers, and disturbing unexplained events begin surrounding her, leading her to believe something sinister is feeding on her reality.

As the horror escalates, she realizes the terrifying force haunting her may only be stopped by confronting the darkest parts of herself.

Alleca described the film as an attempt to tap into a fear audiences have never fully seen explored before. He cited classics like Rosemary’s Baby, The Exorcist, and Get Out as major inspirations behind the project’s character-driven horror and psychological intensity.

Producer Brendon Boyea of Cinemachine also teased the film’s disturbing themes, calling Inhabit an intimate but deeply unsettling experience that aims to open conversations around taboo subject matter.

With Melissa Barrera continuing to cement herself as one of horror’s biggest modern stars, Inhabit already sounds like another dark and emotionally brutal entry into the genre.

Stay tuned for more updates on Inhabit as they arrive.
