The Conjuring Universe is heading back in time.

The upcoming prequel The Conjuring: First Communion has added three new cast members, with Charles Parnell (Top Gun: Maverick), Marta Kessler (The Santa Clauses), and Caleb Dolden (Teacup) joining the film.

They join previously announced star Matthias Schweighöfer (Army of the Dead).

Set before the events of the main Conjuring films, the prequel will feature younger versions of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. Garrett Wareing (Ransom Canyon) and Amanda Fix (Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma) are set to portray the younger versions of the characters originally played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga.

Plot details remain tightly under wraps, but First Communion is being directed by Rodrigue Huart from a screenplay by Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg.

It remains unclear whether Wilson and Farmiga will appear in the film, although the story is expected to primarily focus on the younger incarnations of Ed and Lorraine.

The Conjuring: First Communion is scheduled to hit theaters on September 10, 2027.

The film will add another chapter to one of horror’s biggest franchises. The Conjuring Universe currently includes The Conjuring, Annabelle, The Conjuring 2, Annabelle: Creation, The Nun, Annabelle Comes Home, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, The Nun II, and The Conjuring: Last Rites.

And Warner Bros. Discovery reportedly isn’t finished expanding the universe. A Conjuring television series has also been reported to be in development.

Franchise producer Peter Safran has previously teased that there is plenty of unexplored territory left in the universe, suggesting that both future films and television projects could continue expanding the mythology.

For now, The Conjuring: First Communion is taking audiences back to the early days of Ed and Lorraine Warren—and potentially revealing cases that fans of the franchise have never seen before.
