New ‘Paranormal Activity’ Movie Will Haunt Theaters in May 2027
The Paranormal Activity franchise is officially preparing to return with a brand-new installment, as Paramount Pictures and Blumhouse move forward with the eighth entry in the long-running found-footage horror series.
James Wan (The Conjuring, Insidious) has joined the project as a producer alongside Jason Blum and franchise creator and original director Oren Peli. The film will be directed by Ian Tuason, whose upcoming feature Undertone has already begun generating buzz ahead of its release.
The new Paranormal Activity film is set to haunt theaters on May 21, 2027.
Tuason’s Undertone was recently acquired by A24 and is scheduled to release this March. The film follows a paranormal podcast host who moves into her dying mother’s home to care for her, only to receive disturbing audio recordings from a young couple experiencing unexplained supernatural events. As the recordings escalate, the woman realizes the haunting mirrors her own life, pulling her toward an inescapable fate.
With Tuason stepping into the director’s chair and Wan helping guide the franchise’s next chapter, the upcoming film signals a new evolution for Paranormal Activity—one that aims to build on the series’ legacy of slow-burn dread and unseen terror.
“I’ve been a huge admirer of Paranormal Activity since the brilliant first movie, with its creeping slow burn and subtle ability to make the unseen terrifying,” Wan told The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m looking forward to expanding on its legacy and helping shape the next evolution of this scary found-footage franchise.”
