Blumhouse in Talks to Acquire Rights to ‘Saw’ Franchise from Twisted Pictures

After months of uncertainty surrounding the future of the Saw franchise—especially following the removal of Saw XI from Lionsgate’s release calendar—a major shake-up is underway.

According to Deadline, Blumhouse is in the process of acquiring the rights held by Twisted Pictures, effectively taking over creative control of the long-running horror IP. The deal would give Blumhouse control over the portion of the franchise previously held by Mark Burg and Oren Koules of Twisted Pictures. Lionsgate, which has long distributed the series, will remain involved as a partner.

The Saw franchise rights have been split 50/50 between Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures. Internal disagreements between the two studios reportedly led to the shelving of Saw XI, which had originally been slated for release on September 26, 2025. With Blumhouse stepping in, the series’ stalled future may now be on the verge of revival.

While no new film is currently in development, the Deadline report suggests that a return to the big screen is only a matter of time.

In a surprising twist, the deal also paves the way for James Wan’s return to the franchise he co-created, thanks to Blumhouse’s recent merger with Wan’s company, Atomic Monster. This reunion could bring the series back to its roots while introducing a fresh creative direction.

Stay tuned—Jigsaw may not be finished yet.
