‘They Follow’ – Naomi Ackie Joins Maika Monroe in the ‘It Follows’ Sequel
Maika Monroe (Longlegs) and director David Robert Mitchell are officially reuniting for the long-gestating sequel to It Follows, titled They Follow, and a new casting update has just surfaced.
According to Deadline, Naomi Ackie is now in final talks to join the upcoming sequel. There are currently no details on who she will play, and the plot remains tightly under wraps—beyond the fact that the story is set roughly a decade after the events of the original film.
Production on They Follow is expected to begin this summer, with more casting and story details likely to emerge soon.
In the original It Follows, Maika Monroe’s Jay Height is relentlessly pursued by a mysterious supernatural entity after a sexual encounter, an unseen force that can take on any form and never stops coming. The sequel reportedly expands that concept significantly, with the threat no longer confined to a single path—but everywhere.
Monroe has already teased that the follow-up takes a darker turn. “It’s very dark,” she said in a recent interview, adding that the team is “pushing the boundaries on this one for sure.”
She also noted how different the sequel feels compared to the original. “It’s very different from the original,” Monroe explained. “The first is a little more heightened and dramatic, and this one is much more grounded, following two women dealing with a lot mentally. It’s a really interesting take.”
They Follow is being produced by NEON and Good Fear Content, with anticipation building as the cult favorite horror concept finally continues its story.
