‘Jimmy and Stiggs’ Universe Grows With New Argentine Spinoff Film
Joe Begos’ neon-soaked alien invasion splatterfest Jimmy and Stiggs is expanding its universe.
Released last year by Eli Roth’s The Horror Section, the cult indie horror film is now officially getting an Argentine spin-off, taking the extraterrestrial chaos to a whole new location.
According to Variety, director Sebastián De Caro has acquired the Argentine spin-off rights from The Horror Section. Rather than a straight remake, the new film will introduce entirely new characters facing the same alien threat—this time set in Argentina—expanding the world Begos originally created.
Eli Roth and Joe Begos will both serve as executive producers on the upcoming project.
De Caro expressed his excitement about joining the universe, calling the original film “a brilliant kind of madness,” praising its energy and humor, and describing the spin-off as his biggest creative challenge yet.
Roth also shared his support, stating, “Horror is truly global, and any story can be applied to local culture,” adding that he’s eager to see how the Argentine take expands the universe of Begos’ original vision.
The original Jimmy and Stiggs follows an out-of-work filmmaker who spirals into a drug-fueled breakdown and believes he has been abducted by aliens. Convinced the extraterrestrials will return, he recruits his friend Stiggs to prepare for an all-out war. The film, shot on 16mm during the pandemic, blends practical effects, neon visuals, and heavy gore into a chaotic, surreal experience.
Joe Begos stars in the film alongside Matt Mercer (Contracted), with practical alien puppetry and relentless splatter effects defining its tone.
Critics have praised its chaotic energy, with Daniel Kurland noting that the film delivers “playful, gonzo small-scale-yet-apocalyptic horror,” balancing over-the-top violence with a surprisingly earnest emotional core.
With its growing cult status, Jimmy and Stiggs is now officially becoming a shared horror universe—starting with its first international expansion in Argentina.
