The cast of ‘They Follow’ continues to grow.

As production gears up on the long-awaited sequel to 2014’s It Follows, Deadline reports that a wave of new talent has officially joined the film, reuniting Maika Monroe with writer-director David Robert Mitchell.

Among the latest additions are Jackie Earle Haley (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Justine Lupe (Succession), Anna Mirodin (Ivan), Jayne Taini (Unbelievable), Michael Gandolfini (Daredevil: Born Again), Tom Pecinka (Stereophonic), Melora Walters (Magnolia), Ben Krieger (Song Sung Blue), Natalie Shinnick (The Brutalist), and Jan Hoag (The Fabelmans).

The report also confirms that Naomi Ackie (Blink Twice) has joined the sequel.

While plot details remain tightly under wraps, the story is said to take place 10 years after the events of the original film. Production is expected to begin later this summer.

Released in 2014, It Follows became one of modern horror’s most acclaimed films, following Jay (Maika Monroe) as she was relentlessly pursued by a mysterious supernatural entity passed from victim to victim after a sexual encounter.

Exactly how that nightmare has evolved remains a mystery, but Monroe has hinted that the sequel takes the franchise in a bold new direction.

“It’s very dark,” the actress previously teased. “We’re pushing the boundaries on this one for sure.”

She also described They Follow as a much more grounded story than its predecessor, focusing on two women struggling with the psychological weight of everything they’ve endured.

Produced by NEON and Good Fear Content, the sequel will also feature a brand-new score from returning composer Disasterpeace, whose haunting music became one of the defining elements of the original film.

With David Robert Mitchell back behind the camera, Maika Monroe returning, and an impressive ensemble joining the nightmare, ‘They Follow’ is already shaping up to be one of horror’s most anticipated upcoming releases.
