Next up from writer/director Tilman Singer, known for “Luz,” comes NEON’s intriguing horror offering, “Cuckoo,” starring Hunter Schafer of “Euphoria” fame. NEON has recently unveiled a fresh poster for the upcoming film, along with a revised release date.

Mark your calendars as “Cuckoo” is now slated to hit theaters nationwide on August 9, 2024.

Take a look at the captivating new poster below, and stay tuned for the trailer debut of “Cuckoo” next week.

In “Cuckoo,” the story follows 17-year-old Gretchen as she reluctantly leaves her American home to join her father, who has recently relocated to a resort in the German Alps with his new family. However, their idyllic retreat takes a sinister turn when Gretchen begins to experience strange occurrences and unsettling visions. As she delves deeper, she uncovers a disturbing secret that threatens not only her family but also her own sanity.

Joining Schafer in the cast are Dan Stevens, Jessica Henwick, Marton Csókás, Greta Fernández, and Jan Bluthardt.

Having seen “Cuckoo” at SXSW, I can attest to its inventive worldbuilding and intense horror sequences, which are complemented by Singer’s playful sense of humor. The film stands out for its refreshing unconventionality and unpredictability, culminating in a wildly entertaining finale.

NEON continues to make waves in the horror genre, with “Immaculate,” starring Sydney Sweeney, currently in theaters, and “Longlegs,” featuring Nicolas Cage, set to arrive in July.

Produced by a talented team including Markus Halberschmidt, Josh Rosenbaum, Maria Tsigka, Ken Kao, Thor Bradwell, and Ben Rimmer, “Cuckoo” was shot on 35mm in Germany through a collaboration between Fiction Park and Waypoint Entertainment.

With its intriguing premise and stellar cast, “Cuckoo” promises to be a must-watch for horror enthusiasts craving something fresh and unconventional.
