The Blair Witch is heading back to the woods.

Lionsgate has officially announced that a new installment in The Blair Witch Project franchise will arrive in theaters on September 24, 2027, marking the latest chapter in one of horror’s most influential found-footage series.

A cryptic teaser video accompanied the announcement, offering fans a first glimpse at the project’s eerie atmosphere.

Filmmaker Dylan Clark, whose viral horror short Portrait of God earned widespread acclaim online, is set to direct the new film. Chris Thomas Devlin penned the screenplay.

The project will have strong ties to the original 1999 classic. Original filmmakers Eduardo Sánchez and Daniel Myrick, producer Gregg Hale, and original stars Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams are all attached as executive producers.

Speaking previously about the film, producer James Wan emphasized the importance of involving the creators behind the original movie.

“Getting all the original people that were involved in the original Blair Witch, getting their blessing and getting them involved. That was very important for all of us. We wanted to pay respect to the legacy of it all,” Wan told IndieWire.

The film is being produced by Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, continuing the partnership between Jason Blum and James Wan. Roy Lee, Adam Hendricks, and Greg Gilreath are also producing.

According to the official synopsis, the new film will deliver a “groundbreaking new chapter” that once again explores the terror lurking deep within the woods.

Clark joins a growing list of filmmakers discovered through viral online horror shorts. His breakout film Portrait of God is currently being developed into a feature adaptation with Jordan Peele and Sam Raimi attached as producers. Clark is also developing a feature based on his short Story Time.

Additional executive producers include Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and Steven Schneider.

The original Blair Witch Project became a cultural phenomenon upon its release in 1999, helping popularize the found-footage genre and spawning multiple sequels. Fans will find out whether the legend still has the power to terrify when the new film arrives in theaters on September 24, 2027.
