Getting swallowed alive by a whale sounds like one of those nightmares that should be impossible. Unfortunately, Whalefall is here to make the idea feel disturbingly real.

20th Century Studios has released the official trailer for the upcoming aquatic survival horror movie, and it delivers exactly what the title promises: a man gets swallowed by a massive sperm whale and has just 60 minutes of oxygen to escape.

Whalefall arrives exclusively in theaters on October 16, 2026.

Based on the trailer, Austin Abrams is about to have a very bad day.

Following the death of his father, Jay Gardiner (Abrams) heads off the coast of Central California to dive for his father’s remains. Instead, he ends up inside the belly of a gigantic sperm whale.

With his oxygen supply rapidly running out, Jay has only one hour to find a way out. As he struggles to survive inside the whale, the lessons his father taught him may ultimately be the key to making it back to the surface.

Brian Duffield (No One Will Save You) directs Whalefall from a screenplay he co-wrote with Daniel Kraus, based on Kraus’ 2023 novel.

Abrams and Josh Brolin star alongside Elisabeth Shue (The Boys), Jane Levy (Evil Dead), John Ortiz (Kong: Skull Island), and Emily Rudd (Fear Street Part Two: 1978).

And if Abrams’ survival skills look familiar, you’ll also be seeing him in another major horror release this year. The actor stars in Zach Cregger’s upcoming Resident Evil, which hits theaters this September.

Until then, Whalefall is ready to take audiences somewhere no one wants to go: inside a whale.
