The Leprechaun is coming back.

Nearly a decade after the franchise’s most recent installment, Lionsgate is officially developing a brand new Leprechaun movie, according to Deadline. The studio has also already found the writers who will bring the killer creature back to the screen.

Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, the duo behind films including Saw IV through Saw 3D and The Collector, have been tapped to write the new installment.

Plot details are currently being kept under wraps.

Oren Koules and Miles Koules are set to produce the film through their Koulest Productions banner. Oren Koules, who produced the Saw franchise, expressed his excitement about returning to work with Lionsgate and the writing team.

The Leprechaun franchise began in 1993 with Mark Jones’ original horror-comedy, starring Warwick Davis as the murderous Leprechaun. Davis went on to reprise the role in five sequels before the franchise was rebooted with 2014’s Leprechaun: Origins, which starred Dylan “Hornswoggle” Postl as the titular creature.

The series later returned to its original continuity with 2018’s Leprechaun Returns, with Linden Porco taking over the role.

This isn’t the first attempt at bringing the franchise back. Director Felipe Vargas was previously attached to helm a new Leprechaun movie for Lionsgate, but that project ultimately fell apart.

Now, it looks like the killer little bastard is getting another chance.
