Adam Scott Tried Out for ‘Hellraiser 6’ After His Death in ‘Hellraiser 4’: “Maybe They’ll Miss It”

Long before comedy fame came calling, Adam Scott got his start in horror with Hellraiser: Bloodline, the fourth chapter in the Hellraiser series.

It wasn’t exactly a role that screamed “sequel potential.” Scott’s character met a vicious end—losing his face and his heart in one of the film’s more memorable deaths. Still, that didn’t stop him from taking another crack at the franchise years later when Hellraiser: Hellseeker rolled around.

Speaking recently on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Scott admitted he was well aware of the awkward continuity issue when the audition came his way.

“My agent sent me an audition for Hellraiser 6, and I’m like, ‘Hold on—I was already in Hellraiser 4,’” he told Seth Meyers. “But I needed work, so I figured, why not? Maybe they wouldn’t notice.”

That mindset carried into the audition itself, which Scott described as something of a covert operation. While waiting, he spotted a familiar face from the previous film—a producer—sitting in an office with the door slightly open.

“I remember holding my pages up like, ‘If he doesn’t see me and they like what I do, maybe I can sneak into Hellraiser 6,’” he joked.

It didn’t pan out. As Scott and Meyers laughed, the missed opportunity likely had less to do with franchise continuity and more to do with the audition performance itself.

In Hellraiser: Bloodline, Scott played Jacques, an assistant in 18th-century Paris who meets his grisly fate at the hands of the cenobite Angelique. The film uniquely functions as both a prequel and sequel, tracing the origins of the infamous puzzle box and the cursed bloodline behind it.

Today, Scott is riding high on the success of Severance and is preparing to return for its third season—proof that even the most brutal on-screen death isn’t the end of the story.
