Rising scream queen Maika Monroe is set to return to theaters this fall with a brand-new horror entry, Victorian Psycho—arriving just ahead of her highly anticipated comeback in They Follow.

According to reports, Victorian Psycho is slated for a theatrical release on September 25 via Bleecker Street, where it will go head-to-head with DreamWorks Animation’s fantasy adventure Forgotten Island.

Set in 1858 England, the film centers on an unsettling new governess, Winifred Notty, who arrives at the isolated Ensor House—a gothic estate hiding more than just family secrets. Tasked with educating the children and maintaining order, Winifred quickly integrates herself into the household… but beneath her composed exterior lies something far more dangerous.

As she settles into her role, members of the staff begin to mysteriously vanish, raising suspicion among the estate’s owners. What initially appears to be a strict and peculiar caretaker slowly reveals itself to be something far more sinister, as paranoia spreads through the halls of Ensor House.

Monroe leads a stacked cast that includes Thomasin McKenzie (Last Night in Soho), Jason Isaacs (The White Lotus), and Jacobi Jupe (The Exorcist).

The film is written by Virginia Feito, who adapts her own 2025 novel of the same name, with Zachary Wigon (Sanctuary) directing. Production is backed by Traffic and Anton, alongside Anonymous Content.

While anticipation builds for the film’s release, fans can also look forward to a new paperback edition of Victorian Psycho, arriving May 5.
