Seventeen years after Jennifer’s Body first hit theaters, the cult horror favorite is officially getting a sequel—and this time, things are looking very different behind the scenes.

Writer Diablo Cody is returning to pen Jennifer’s Body 2, and in a recent appearance on The Boo Crew Podcast, she confirmed that the script is already underway—and coming from a far more unrestrained place creatively.

Unlike traditional sequels that aim to preserve what worked before, Cody says this one is fueled by freedom. Where the original film faced studio limitations and mixed reception upon release, the sequel is being written without those constraints. The result? A more daring, unapologetic continuation that leans into everything the first film couldn’t fully explore.

Cody also emphasized that the sequel is deeply influenced by the film’s evolution into a cult classic. While Jennifer’s Body initially struggled both critically and commercially, it found a second life with audiences over the years—something that directly inspired the direction of the new script.

According to Cody, the sequel isn’t just about revisiting Jennifer and Needy—it’s also personal. She describes the writing process as cathartic, driven by gratitude toward the fans who kept the film alive long after its release. That connection is baked into the DNA of the sequel, making it as much a reflection of its legacy as it is a continuation of the story.

Producer Mason Novick, who has read the script, teased that the film balances honoring the original while also poking fun at it. He noted that it tackles themes that feel more relevant today—ideas that may not have been fully realized back in 2009.

At this stage, no cast members are officially attached. However, Amanda Seyfried has previously expressed strong interest in returning—on one condition: she wants Megan Fox back alongside her.
