Christian Bale & Jessie Buckley Unveiled in New ‘The Bride!’ Look

It looks like love at first fright. A new image from The Bride! via USA Today reveals Christian Bale as Frankenstein’s monster alongside Jessie Buckley as his newly created companion—and the chemistry is as unsettling as it is electric.

Written and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, this bold, iconoclastic reimagining of the classic horror tale stomps into theaters and IMAX on March 6 from Warner Bros.

Set against the grimy backdrop of 1930s Chicago, the film follows a lonely Frankenstein who seeks out groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronious to help end his isolation. Their solution is as dangerous as it is desperate: resurrecting a murdered young woman. The result is The Bride—alive, aware, and anything but predictable.

What follows spirals far beyond its monstrous origins, unleashing murder, possession, radical cultural upheaval, and a volatile outlaw romance that refuses to be contained.

Bale and Buckley star alongside Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Penélope Cruz.

Buckley recently spoke to Vogue about the uphill battle to land the role, revealing that studio hesitation nearly derailed the casting. “Nobody wanted me to do that film,” she said, citing concerns over marketability—until Gyllenhaal put her foot down. “Sorry, I’m not doing it without her.”

Gyllenhaal also produces alongside Emma Tillinger Koskoff (Joker, The Wolf of Wall Street), Talia Kleinhendler, and Osnat Handelsman Keren, with executive producers Carla Raij, David Webb, and Courtney Kivowitz.

The Bride! is rated R for strong, bloody violence, sexual content and nudity, and language.
