‘Backrooms’ Movie Teaser from A24 Promises Liminal Horror in May 2026
A young woman desperate to cheat death ventures into the haunted woods in Mother of Flies, where the new trailer and poster hint that dabbling in death magic comes with a terrifying price.
The witchy horror descends onto Shudder on January 23, 2026, conjured by the filmmaking trio Toby Poser, John Adams, and Zelda Adams (Hellbender, Where the Devil Roams, Hell Hole)—collectively known as the Adams Family. The trailer also features their daughter, Lulu Adams, stepping into the dark fray.
In the story, Mickey (Zelda Adams) faces a fatal diagnosis but refuses to succumb. She retreats into the shadowy forest with her father (John Adams) in search of the reclusive Solveig (Toby Poser), a practitioner of extreme death magic whose roots intertwine with the land itself. For three harrowing days, Mickey endures rituals that blur the line between life and the afterlife. Each spell carries a cost, each cure a curse, and buried secrets claw their way from the soil as the veil between the living and the dead shatters. Mickey confronts dark truths that only the dead and dying can reveal.
The Adams Family is known for films steeped in dread and occult intrigue—The Deeper You Dig, Hellbender, Hell Hole, Where the Devil Roams—and for the chilling episode “Plastic Smile” from Screambox’s Tales from the Void. Their films’ soundscapes are scored by their own band, H6LLB6ND6R, weaving music and horror into a singular, unsettling experience.
Prepare for a descent into dark magic, cursed woods, and the terrifying price of cheating death.
