‘Scary Movie’ Helps Franchise Smash the $1 Billion Worldwide Mark
The new Scary Movie continues to dominate the box office, crossing another major milestone just weeks after delivering the biggest opening weekend in the franchise’s history.
After debuting with a record-breaking $105 million worldwide opening, the horror-comedy spoof has now surpassed $200 million globally. The film has earned $100 million domestically, pushing its worldwide total to an impressive $208 million.
The latest box office haul also marks a huge achievement for the long-running franchise. According to Deadline, the combined earnings of all six Scary Movie films have officially surpassed $1 billion worldwide.
Here’s how each installment has performed globally:
- Scary Movie – $278 million
- Scary Movie 2 – $141.2 million
- Scary Movie 3 – $220.6 million
- Scary Movie 4 – $178.2 million
- Scary Movie 5 – $78.3 million
- Scary Movie 6 – $208.5 million (and climbing)
The latest sequel is also making history in another way. Deadline reports that Scary Movie is the first traditional R-rated comedy—not a superhero or action-comedy hybrid—to top $100 million domestically since 2017’s Girls Trip.
With a reported production budget of just $30 million, the film has already become a major financial success for Paramount and is expected to continue generating strong profits during its theatrical run.
Critical reception has been far less enthusiastic. The film currently holds a 23% score on Rotten Tomatoes and earned a C+ CinemaScore, but audiences have clearly embraced its return, proving the franchise still has plenty of box office appeal.
The new installment reunites franchise favorites Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris, and Regina Hall, alongside returning cast members Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, Jon Abrahams, and several newcomers.
Set 26 years after surviving a suspiciously familiar masked killer, the Core Four once again find themselves targeted as the franchise gleefully skewers everything modern horror has to offer—from reboots, remakes, requels, and legacy sequels to elevated horror and endless “final chapters.”
Scary Movie was directed by Michael Tiddes (A Haunted House), bringing the iconic horror parody franchise back to theaters for its sixth installment.
