WTFilms Secures Global Rights for Dutch Directors’ Outlandish Horror-Comedy ‘Krazy House’ Starring Nick Frost and Alicia Silverstone

The English-language debut of Dutch directors Steffan Haars and Flip Van Der Kuil, titled “Krazy House,” stirred up controversy at Sundance this year with its exaggerated parody of the ’90s sitcom era. Deadline reports that international sales rights for the divisive horror-comedy have been acquired by WTFilms.

In this film by writers and directors Steffen Haars and Flip van der Kuil, the plot unfolds as follows: “When Russian workers in Bernie’s house turn out to be wanted criminals, Bernie has to man up and save his ’90s sitcom family.”

Nick Frost, known for “Shaun of the Dead,” takes on the role of the hapless Bernie Christian, while Alicia Silverstone (“Perpetrator”) portrays his beleaguered wife, Eva. The cast also includes Jan Bijvoet, Gaite Jansen, Walt Klink, and Kevin Connolly.

The initially light-hearted ’90s sitcom atmosphere takes a drastic turn when a trio of Russian criminals disrupts the scene, leading to shocking violence and chaos.

Premiering in Sundance’s The Midnights section and making its European debut in Rotterdam’s Limelight section, “Krazy House” showcases Steffen and Flip, internationally acclaimed for their teen TV series “New Kids.”

The trailer for “Krazy House” exudes a “Too Many Cooks” vibe, providing a clear indicator of whether this wild horror-comedy is your cup of tea.

In a Sundance review, it was noted that the horror-comedy “starts with the insanity meter already dialed up to near-max levels, leaving the comedy-horror without much room to escalate the chaos.” The film is described as a relentless exercise in shock value and empty violence, navigating through uncomfortable encounters between the Christians and their invaders, resulting in blood, violence, and a descent from sitcom eccentricity to drug addiction and hostage desires.

Maarten Swart produced the genre-bending film under his Amsterdam-based company Kaap Holland Film. Dutch rights are held by Splendid Films, while XYZ is handling North America.

Now that international rights for “Krazy House” have been secured, a release date is anticipated to be announced soon. Stay tuned for further details as they emerge.
