‘The Mummy 4’ from Radio Silence Eyes August Filming Kickoff
With Ready or Not 2: Here I Come now in theaters, directing duo Radio Silence—Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett—are gearing up for their next major project: the long-awaited fourth installment in The Mummy franchise.
The action-adventure horror sequel is currently targeting a summer production window, with cameras expected to roll as early as August. Universal has already set a release date for May 19, 2028.
“We’re supposed to start prep in May, and hopefully shooting starts in August,” Gillett revealed in a recent interview.
Fan-favorite stars Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are set to return as Rick and Evelyn O’Connell, marking a major reunion for the franchise. The script comes from Orphan: First Kill writer David Coggeshall.
While plot details remain tightly under wraps, the film is reportedly ignoring the events of The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, effectively resetting the timeline and bringing the focus back to the original duo.
Radio Silence has also emphasized a return to practical filmmaking. Gillett noted that while large-scale sequences will still require some digital effects, the goal is to ground the action in real environments as much as possible—an approach that could bring a grittier, more immersive feel to the new installment.
Producer Sean Daniel, who worked on the original trilogy alongside the late James Jacks, is back on board. He’s joined by Project X Entertainment’s William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein.
The original The Mummy debuted in 1999, becoming a global hit with over $422 million at the box office and spawning two sequels in 2001 and 2008.
Now, with Fraser and Weisz returning and Radio Silence behind the camera, The Mummy 4 is shaping up to resurrect the franchise in a big way.
