Russell Crowe, renowned for his gripping performances, takes on a new role in the upcoming meta-possession horror film, “The Exorcism,” and today, Vertical Entertainment has unveiled the official trailer.

Vertical Entertainment has secured the North American distribution rights for “The Exorcism,” slated to hit theaters on June 7. Additionally, Shudder is set to bring the film to home audiences later this year.

Directed by Joshua John Miller, known for his work on “The Final Girls” and appearances in films like “Near Dark” and “And You Thought Your Parents Were Weird,” “The Exorcism” promises a fresh take on the possession genre.

Miller, who also co-wrote the script alongside M.A. Fortin, shares a personal connection to the film, as his late father starred in one of the most iconic possession movies of all time. Reflecting on his childhood memories and the eerie tales surrounding the production, Miller delves into the haunting allure of so-called “cursed films.”

“The Exorcism” centers around Anthony Miller (portrayed by Crowe), a troubled actor whose life begins to unravel while filming a supernatural horror movie. As his estranged daughter, played by Ryan Simpkins, watches his descent, she questions whether his struggles stem from past addictions or something far more sinister.

Joining Crowe and Simpkins are Sam Worthington, Chloe Bailey, Adam Goldberg, and David Hyde Pierce in a cast that promises to deliver a compelling exploration of darkness and vulnerability.

Producer Kevin Williamson, known for his work on iconic horror franchises like “Scream” and “Sick,” lends his expertise to “The Exorcism,” adding another layer of anticipation to this chilling tale of possession and redemption.
