Universal has been striving to revive their Universal Monsters franchise after the setback of the Dark Universe collapse. Despite facing challenges, the studio has released four movies since the ill-fated attempt to launch an interconnected universe with “The Mummy.”

The first success post-Dark Universe came with Leigh Whannell’s “The Invisible Man,” followed by “The Last Voyage of the Demeter,” “Renfield,” and most recently, “Abigail.” While the latter three attempted to reintroduce Dracula in innovative ways, “Demeter” and “Renfield” struggled at the box office, and “Abigail,” though well-received, is facing profitability hurdles.

So, what’s next for the Universal Monsters brand? The silver lining is the collaboration between Universal and Blumhouse once again, as they tap Leigh Whannell for their upcoming reboot of “Wolf Man,” slated for January 2025 release. Whannell’s success with “The Invisible Man,” grossing $144 million worldwide against a $7 million budget, makes this partnership especially promising.

Despite the success, fans have been eagerly awaiting news of “The Invisible Man 2.” In a recent interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, star Elisabeth Moss shares encouraging updates on the sequel’s development.

Moss expresses optimism, stating, “Blumhouse and my production company [Love & Squalor Pictures]… we are closer than we have ever been to cracking it,” adding, “And I feel very good about it.” She emphasizes their commitment to continuing Cecilia Kass’s story.

In the conclusion of the 2020 film, Moss’s character, Cecilia Kass, gains control of her tormentor’s invisibility suit, hinting at potential developments in the sequel.

As fans eagerly await further updates on “The Invisible Man 2,” Moss’s reassurance hints at an exciting continuation of the gripping narrative.
