Amy Adams has been confirmed as the lead actress in the highly anticipated horror project Nightbitch, produced by Searchlight Pictures. The film has recently received an official “R” rating from the Motion Picture Association (MPA), citing reasons such as language and some sexuality.

Nightbitch, described as a darkly comic horror film, will be helmed by acclaimed director Marielle Heller, known for her work on “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.” The movie is set to be released as a Hulu Original, adding to the excitement surrounding its release.

Joining Amy Adams in the cast are talented actors Scoot McNairy, known for his role in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” and Mary Holland, recognized for her performance in “Happiest Season.”

Nightbitch follows the story of a woman who finds herself immersed in the monotonous routine of suburban life, raising a toddler as a stay-at-home mom. As the plot unfolds, she gradually embraces a feral power deeply ingrained in motherhood, increasingly aware of peculiar and undeniable signs that she may be transforming into a canine.

The screenplay for Nightbitch is based on the novel of the same name by Rachel Yoder, who also contributed to adapting her own work for the big screen.

In a statement, director Marielle Heller expressed her admiration for Rachel Yoder’s book, stating that it left her breathless, evoking the same feeling she had when she read “The Diary of a Teenage Girl” years ago. Heller further praised Yoder’s darkly hilarious exploration of motherhood and rage, emphasizing that working on this project, especially with Amy Adams in mind, has been a source of inspiration and motivation during the challenging times of the pandemic. Heller expressed her excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to bring this dream project to life, alongside partners such as Anne Carey, Annapurna Pictures, and Searchlight.

Notably, Amy Adams will not only be starring in Nightbitch but will also be involved as a producer, further showcasing her commitment to the film and her belief in its potential.
