Amy Adams is set to headline the horror project “Nightbitch” from Searchlight Pictures, recently earning an R-rating from the MPA. The news, initially tucked within a non-genre project announcement on Deadline, has finally come to light.

Directed by Marielle Heller, known for “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” the “darkly comic horror film” is slated to be a Hulu Original release.

“Nightbitch” unfolds the tale of a woman navigating the routine of raising a toddler in the suburbs, gradually embracing the feral power deeply rooted in motherhood. As she becomes increasingly aware of peculiar signs, she begins to suspect a transformation into a canine.

Amy Adams, who is also producing through her banner Bond Group Entertainment, will be starring in the film set to release in fall 2024. Based on Rachel Yoder’s debut novel, the movie is expected to make its debut just in time for the Halloween season.

The R-rated “Nightbitch” explores themes of language and some sexuality and features additional cast members, including Scoot McNairy from “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and Mary Holland from “Happiest Season.”

Rachel Yoder, the author of the novel, penned the screenplay for the adaptation. Heller expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Rachel Yoder’s book took my breath away. Rachel’s darkly hilarious tale of motherhood and rage made me feel seen. And adapting it with Amy Adams in mind has been the thing that has kept me going through the pandemic. I am so thrilled to be bringing this movie to life with wonderful partners in Anne Carey, Annapurna Pictures, and Searchlight. It is a dream come true.”

While “Nightbitch” is expected in Fall 2024, fans can anticipate a more concrete release date announcement soon.
