Shark horror is heading back to open water as Kate Beckinsale and Katherine McNamara have officially joined the cast of White, an upcoming survival thriller packed with isolation, tension, and deadly great whites. The film will be directed by Jake West (Doghouse, Evil Aliens) from a screenplay written by Dan Schaffer, who previously collaborated with West on Doghouse and The Scribbler.

White follows Willa Harba, a struggling actress desperate for her big break who finds herself traveling overseas for a film shoot alongside a self-absorbed movie star. Disaster strikes when their private jet crashes into the Pacific Ocean, leaving Willa as the sole survivor stranded on the wreckage of a broken airplane wing with nothing but miles of open water surrounding her.

Armed with only a satellite phone recovered from the crash, Willa desperately attempts to call for rescue. Instead of help, she’s brushed aside by her demanding studio boss Barbara, played by Beckinsale. Her signal eventually reaches marine biologist Sam Swatek, portrayed by McNamara, who delivers terrifying news: Willa has crash-landed directly inside the infamous White Shark Café, a remote stretch of ocean known for massive gatherings of feeding great white sharks.

Casting is currently underway for the lead role of Willa, while Highland Film Group is handling worldwide rights and co-financing the project.

The film is being produced by Yariv Lerner (Rambo: Last Blood), Dominic Burns (Jay and Silent Bob Reboot), Crawford Anderson-Dillon, and Sky Morfopoulos. Executive producers include Beckinsale alongside Highland executives Arianne Fraser and Delphine Perrier, as well as Patrick Wintersgill, Kevin Glynn, Pauric Duffy, and Hannah Leader.

“White is an incredibly elevated and intense adventure for the ages, filled with tension, emotion and ferocious sharks,” said Highland CEO Arianne Fraser.

Highland COO Delphine Perrier added, “We are delighted to be working with producer Yariv Lerner, who continues to be a guiding force behind some of today’s most innovative action films. And with our wonderful cast led by Kate Beckinsale and Katherine McNamara, it’s the perfect addition to our Cannes slate.”

Production on White is expected to begin this summer with filming taking place in Bulgaria, England, and the United States.
