A24’s latest horror flick, ‘Talk to Me,’ proved to be a pleasant surprise as it hit 2,340 theaters across the United States last weekend. Early projections anticipated a modest domestic total of around $5 million for the opening weekend. However, the film received positive word-of-mouth and strong buzz, leading it to shatter expectations and rake in an impressive $10 million over the weekend.

The official weekend box office number stands at $10,028,632, earning ‘Talk to Me’ the #6 spot on the domestic box office charts during the second weekend of the #Barbenheimer phenomenon.

Directed by the talented Philippou brothers, Danny, and Michael, ‘Talk to Me’ was produced with a reported budget of just $4.5 million, a figure it managed to recoup on its very first day of release. However, it is important to note that A24 acquired the film for a reported “high seven figures” at Sundance and invested a significant amount in marketing the release.

Although the exact profit margin for A24 remains uncertain without specific financial figures, it is undoubtedly a reason to celebrate the studio.

‘Talk to Me’ adds another victory to the horror genre this year. This Australian indie film has once again demonstrated the insatiable appetite for horror among audiences at the box office. Despite other major films like ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ dominating discussions, ‘Talk to Me’ managed to break through the noise and leave a mark of its own in theaters.

The film offers brutal terror as it follows a group of friends who stumble upon a way to summon spirits using an embalmed hand. Their thrilling fascination with the supernatural takes a chilling turn when one of them goes too far, unleashing terrifying forces beyond their control. Starring Sophia Wilde, Miranda Otto, Alexandra Jensen, Joe Bird, Otis Djanji, and Zoe Terakes, ‘Talk to Me’ has become a standout horror hit for A24.
