The Hawkins gang is heading back into the Upside Down this fall when Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 returns for its second season. Netflix has revealed a September premiere date along with a new batch of images teasing the animated series’ next supernatural nightmare.

Season 2 premieres on Netflix September 17.

The animated spinoff takes place during the winter of 1985, following Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, and Max as they attempt to enjoy a quieter life after their previous encounters with the horrors of the Upside Down. With Hawkins covered in snow, the gang has settled into D&D, snowball fights, and something resembling normal teenage life.

That peace won’t last.

With Valentine’s Day approaching, Season 2 finds the gang investigating ghostly apparitions and a swarm of strange creatures wreaking havoc throughout Hawkins. Whatever is lurking in the shadows, it looks like the town’s supernatural problems are far from over.

The voice cast includes Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max, Luca Diaz as Mike, Elisha “EJ” Williams as Lucas, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, Ben Plessala as Will, Brett Gipson as Hopper, Jeremy Jordan as Steve, and Odessa A’zion as newcomer Nikki Baxter.

Also joining the cast are Janeane Garofalo as Anna Baxter, Lou Diamond Phillips as Daniel Fischer, Robert Englund as Cosmo, Alysia Reiner as Karen Wheeler, Alessandra Antonelli as Nancy Wheeler, Valeria Rodriguez as Rosario, and Jack Griffo as Jeff.

Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer executive produce alongside Hilary Leavitt for Upside Down Pictures, Shawn Levy through 21 Laps, Dan Cohen, and Robles.

The second season arrives after a mixed reception to the animated spinoff’s first outing. In his review for Bloody Disgusting, Daniel Kurland described Tales from ’85 as “branded content” that was familiar enough to keep viewers watching, while hoping a potential second season would make better use of the franchise’s enormous supernatural potential.

Now, Season 2 has a chance to dig deeper into Hawkins—and introduce a whole new batch of creatures for the gang to fight.
