Joe Wright to Direct Post-Apocalyptic Thriller ‘Juice’ Adaptation
Two-time BAFTA winner Joe Wright (Hanna, Black Mirror) is set to direct the feature adaptation of the post-apocalyptic thriller novel Juice, according to Deadline.
The screenplay will be handled by Emmy winner Abi Morgan (Shame, Eric), adapting the novel by Tim Winton for Working Title Films.
Set in a shattered future ravaged by climate catastrophe, Juice follows a young husband and father pulled into a secret resistance network. Recruited into a covert militia, he is assigned to hunt down the wealthy figures believed to be responsible for the collapse of society. But when one mission spirals violently out of control, he is forced into a desperate fight for survival, hunted across a hostile, collapsing world.
A story rooted in ecological collapse and moral decay, the adaptation blends dystopian survival thriller elements with a bleak exploration of class violence in a post-climate disaster world.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled that Tim Winton has entrusted us with his extraordinary epic,” Wright told Deadline. “The story is both a thrilling modern family saga and an urgent call to action. I cannot wait for audiences to experience it on the big screen.”
Winton added, “I’m pleased to know a filmmaker of Joe Wright’s calibre has chosen to adapt Juice for the screen. His capacity to portray the turmoil and the turning points of nations and peoples as well as private individuals distinguishes his work as a director and I’m confident that Juice is in good hands.”
Juice was first published in October 2024 and has since been longlisted for The Climate Fiction Prize 2026.
