Stephen King Short Story ‘Mister Yummy’ Set for Horror Adaptation

A new Stephen King adaptation is officially on the way, with Mister Yummy now finding its director.

Ben Young, known for his breakout psychological horror film Hounds of Love, has been tapped to helm the upcoming adaptation of King’s short story from the 2015 collection The Bazaar of Bad Dreams, according to Deadline.

The story centers on Ollie Franklin, a resident of an assisted living facility who begins experiencing unsettling visions following the death of a fellow resident. As reality begins to fracture, Ollie finds himself caught between memory, regret, and something far more supernatural—forcing him to confront buried secrets before time runs out.

Young will co-write the screenplay alongside Troy Abruzzise.

In a statement, Young described the project as a personal milestone, noting Stephen King as one of the first authors he read obsessively. He praised Mister Yummy for blending emotional weight with creeping horror, calling it “creepy, moving, character-driven,” and exactly the kind of story he would want to see on screen. He also highlighted the project as his first feature directing credit since Hounds of Love that he has also helped write.

The film will be produced by Aimee Schoof, Isen Robbins, and Megan Freels Johnston of Intrinsic Value Films (Tesla, Experimenter), alongside Josh Kesselman (Devil’s Peak, The Great) and Thomas Mahoney of Handsome Watson (Wild Indian, Brian).

Mister Yummy joins a growing slate of Stephen King adaptations in development, including Carrie, The Stand, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, Rat, Autopsy Room Four, and Cujo.
