Nicholas Hoult and Colman Domingo to Lead Dark ‘The Servant’ Remake

A bold new reimagining of The Servant is on the way, with an all-star cast set to bring the psychological power struggle into a darker, more provocative modern era.

According to reports, Colman Domingo, Nicholas Hoult, Noah Jupe, and Emma Corrin have signed on to star in the upcoming remake of the acclaimed 1963 British classic.

Set in 1950s New York City, the new film follows Tony, played by Hoult, a wealthy and deeply entitled British man who settles into a lavish Central Park apartment. His carefully constructed world begins to unravel after he hires Barrett, a mysterious and manipulative servant portrayed by Domingo. What begins as a professional arrangement spirals into a dangerous psychological game fueled by obsession, desire, and control.

The project comes from writer-director Francis Lee, best known for God’s Own Country. Lee’s take is said to inject the story with heightened sexual tension and contemporary themes while preserving the claustrophobic psychological dread that made the original film so influential.

Producers Graham Broadbent and Pete Czernin are backing the project through Blueprint Pictures, the studio behind Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Executive producers include Ben Knight, Diarmuid McKeown, and Farhana Bhula.

Lee described the film as “an exciting, dangerous and fun retelling” of the classic story, adding that while the narrative unfolds in 1950s New York, its themes remain strikingly relevant today.

Originally directed by Joseph Losey, The Servant is widely regarded as one of the greatest British films ever made, earning a place among the British Film Institute’s top-ranked British films of all time.

Production on the remake is expected to begin in January 2027, with international sales currently underway at the Cannes Film Market through mk2 Films.

For horror and psychological thriller fans, this twisted new version of The Servant is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing projects on the horizon.
