Jeremy Slater to Make Directorial Debut with Summoner Following Script for Mortal Kombat III
The end of Mortal Kombat II has fans speculating about the future of the franchise, and screenwriter Jeremy Slater is already hard at work on the next chapter. In a recent interview with THR, Slater, known for his work on The Exorcist and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, confirmed that he’s been commissioned to write the script for Mortal Kombat III, though the film hasn’t officially been greenlit yet.
Given that MKII recently achieved the highest opening of any Mortal Kombat film, the odds of a greenlight seem incredibly high. However, that’s not the most exciting news from Slater’s conversation with THR.
Once he finishes the latest draft of Mortal Kombat III, Slater will turn his attention to Summoner, his upcoming directorial debut. “I wrote a movie called Summoner that just got the green light. It’s with one of the major studios, and they might want to make announcements soon. It’s bounced around for a while, but I’ve found the perfect creative home for it,” Slater shared. “We’re currently casting, and I hope to shoot in August. It’s the scariest thing I’ve ever written, and it’s a very, very fun horror movie.”
While plot details are still under wraps, the fact that Slater is making his directorial debut with an original horror film is thrilling news. Previously attached to direct a now-shelved Atomic Monster horror project called Thread, Slater’s move into directing his own original horror project is definitely one to watch. With production on Summoner set to begin later this summer, fans can expect more details about the mysterious film soon.
