‘Backrooms’ Creeps Into Theaters This May — New Poster Drops

Kane Parsons’ viral Backrooms horror universe is officially making the leap to the big screen. A24 and producer James Wan have now locked in a release date for the highly anticipated liminal nightmare.

Backrooms will open in theaters on May 29, 2026.

The film is directed by Kane Parsons, the young filmmaker and VFX artist whose found footage YouTube series exploded online, racking up nearly 100 million views. Plot details for the sci-fi horror adaptation are being kept tightly under wraps.

Leading the cast are Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve. They’ll be joined by Mark Duplass (The Creep Tapes), Finn Bennett (True Detective), Lukita Maxwell (Afraid), and Avan Jogia (Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City).

A24 is teaming with Atomic Monster, Chernin Entertainment, and 21 Laps Entertainment to bring the viral phenomenon to theaters. The screenplay comes from Will Soodik and Roberto Patino.

James Wan and Michael Clear are producing for Atomic Monster.
