Hulu’s new take on the 1990s thriller The Hand That Rocks the Cradle is almost here, starring Maika Monroe (Longlegs) and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Birds of Prey). Directed by Michelle Garza Cervera (Huesera: The Bone Woman), the film begins streaming on Hulu and Disney+ on October 22 and has been officially rated R for “some strong/bloody violence, sexual content and language.”

Winstead plays Caitlin Morales, a wealthy suburban mom who hires a new nanny, Polly Murphy (Monroe), only to discover that she is not who she seems — unleashing a twisted, suspenseful game of deception and terror.

The supporting cast includes Raúl Castillo, Martin Starr, Mileiah Vega, Riki Lindhome, and Shannon Cochran.

The film is written by Micah Bloomberg, based on a screenplay by Amanda Silver, and produced by Michael Schaefer, Mike LaRocca, and Ted Field, with executive producers Michael Napoliello, Maria Frisk, and Seth William Meier.

Director Michelle Garza Cervera told PEOPLE,

“The studio gave me all the chances to recreate the whole thing and build a new story, new characters, with its own heart. I think that was the best way to honor the original, not try to redo it. We build a whole different kind of thriller.”

This reimagined thriller is shaping up to be a bloody, tense ride perfect for horror fans.
