Even the Innocent Can Kill in Chilling New ‘Weapons’ Poster

Following the breakout success of Barbarian, filmmaker Zach Cregger is back this summer with Weapons, a dark and unconventional horror epic that he himself describes as “really fucked up.” Drawing comparisons to Magnolia for its sprawling structure and emotional intensity, the film promises to push boundaries when it hits theaters.

A brand-new official poster has been unveiled, and like the film’s cryptic trailers, it leans into unsettling ambiguity—warning that “even the most harmless things can hurt you.”

Weapons centers on a chilling mystery: when all but one child from the same classroom vanish simultaneously in a single night, the entire community is left grasping for answers—haunted by the question of who, or what, is behind the mass disappearance. Audiences can explore clues ahead of the release at MaybrookMissing.com, a viral site teasing the story’s disturbing layers.

“This is a true story that happened right here in my town,” says a voice in the marketing. “A lot of people die in a lot of really weird ways in this story. And you’re not gonna find it in the newspaper.”

Cregger’s latest ensemble includes Josh Brolin (Dune: Part Two), Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), Alden Ehrenreich (Cocaine Bear), Benedict Wong (3 Body Problem), Amy Madigan (Antlers), Austin Abrams (Euphoria), and Cary Christopher (Days of Our Lives).

Produced by Subconscious, Vertigo Entertainment, and BoulderLight Pictures, Weapons is a New Line Cinema release. Warner Bros. Pictures will distribute the film in theaters and IMAX nationwide on August 8, 2025, with an international rollout to follow later in the month.
