The journey of ‘The Last Voyage of the Demeter’ has been a long and intriguing one. Originally scripted by Bragi Schut, the story has undergone various adaptations over the years, attracting the interest of several directors. Ultimately, André Øvredal, known for his work on ‘The Autopsy of Jane Doe’ and ‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark,’ took the helm, signifying the film as an Amblin Partners production.

Corey Hawkins, recognized for his roles in ‘Kong: Skull Island’ and ‘The Walking Dead,’ takes on a leading role in the film. The screenplay received its latest version from the talented writer Zak Olkewicz, known for his work on ‘Bullet Train.’

The film’s premise is based on a single chapter, the Captain’s Log, from Bram Stoker’s renowned novel, ‘Dracula,’ published in 1897. This chapter narrates the ill-fated voyage of the Russian schooner, Demeter, tasked with transporting twenty-four mysterious wooden crates from Carpathia to London. The film delves into the eerie and haunting events that unfold during the perilous ocean journey, as the crew finds themselves haunted each night by a terrifying presence aboard the ship. Upon its arrival near Whitby Harbour, the Demeter is discovered deserted, with no trace of its crew.
