The highly-anticipated official trailer for “The Exorcist: Believer” made its grand debut in theaters over the weekend, and for those eagerly waiting for its online release, the wait is over!

Get ready to witness David Gordon Green’s chilling vision of a sequel set decades after the original horror classic as you watch the spine-tingling trailer for “The Exorcist: Believer” above.

Taking a page from the Halloween 2018 approach, this movie follows in the footsteps of its predecessor by bringing back the iconic Ellen Burstyn, reprising her role as Chris MacNeil from William Friedkin’s terrifying 1970s horror masterpiece.

Similar to Laurie Strode in Gordon Green’s Halloween trilogy, Burstyn’s Chris MacNeil steps up to aid a new group of characters in the year 2023. Brace yourselves as the first official trailer for “The Exorcist: Believer” reveals a twist – not just one, but TWO young women fall victim to possession by a demonic entity this time around, doubling up on Friedkin’s original iconic approach.

The trailer leaves us with haunting questions: Who will survive this relentless supernatural onslaught? And what will be left of them when the nightmare is over? Watch the gripping trailer above to find out!

Directed by David Gordon Green, the new sequel to “The Exorcist” is set to kickstart an exciting trilogy in collaboration with Universal, Blumhouse, and Morgan Creek. The trilogy’s first installment is scheduled for a theatrical release on October 13, 2023, featuring the talented Leslie Odom Jr. in a starring role.

Last year, initial plot details hinted at Odom Jr.’s character, playing the father of a possessed child who seeks help and ends up seeking out Ellen Burstyn’s character.

Now, we have the official plot synopsis:

“Victor Fielding (Leslie Odom Jr.), bereaved of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake twelve years ago, has been raising their daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett, known for her role in ‘Good Girls’), as a single parent. But when Angela and her friend Katherine (Olivia Marcum) mysteriously vanish in the woods and return three days later with no recollection of what happened, a chain of events is set in motion. Victor is compelled to confront the depths of evil and, in his terror and desperation, seeks out the only living person who has witnessed anything like it before: Chris MacNeil.”

Joining the cast are Ann Dowd (‘Hereditary’), Lidya Jewett, Raphael Sbarge (‘Gaslit’), Jennifer Nettles (‘The Righteous Gemstones’), and Olivia Marcum.

The script for “Believer” was co-written by Peter Sattler (‘Broken Diamonds’) and Gordon Green. The story was developed by Green, Scott Teems (‘Halloween Kills’), and Danny McBride (‘Halloween’).

The “Exorcist” franchise has been absent from the big screen since the 2005 release of “Dominion: Prequel to The Exorcist,” an alternate version of the previous year’s “Exorcist: The Beginning.” These movies followed the 1977 film “The Exorcist II: The Heretic” and “The Exorcist III” in 1990.

In more recent years, “The Exorcist” was adapted into a short-lived television series on Fox, which garnered surprising acclaim by skillfully integrating into the same world as the original classic.
