‘The End of Oak Street’ Images Reveal a Wild New Dinosaur Nightmare from the Director of ‘It Follows’
Director David Robert Mitchell (It Follows) returns to theaters this summer with The End of Oak Street, a mysterious new genre-bending thriller stomping into theaters August 14 from Warner Bros.
Starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, the upcoming sci-fi nightmare has been shrouded in secrecy since its announcement, but the recently released trailer — along with a fresh batch of images unveiled by Entertainment Weekly — confirms what horror fans have been suspecting all along: The End of Oak Street is unleashing DINOSAURS.
One newly released image in particular features a massive dinosaur tearing through a quiet suburban neighborhood, hinting at the kind of chaos Mitchell has in store.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Mitchell revealed the bizarre inspiration behind the film’s creature-filled concept.
“A few years ago, I was walking through our neighborhood in Michigan,” Mitchell explained. “I was passing this garage with a chain-link fence and garbage cans, and I suddenly thought, ‘It’d be really interesting if there was a dinosaur right there.’”
While comparisons to Jurassic Park are inevitable, Mitchell says his influences run much deeper.
“Like anybody, I absolutely love the first Jurassic Park,” the director told EW. “But for me, my language of dinosaur movies goes back much further. I wanted to do something different.”
Set in the early 1980s, The End of Oak Street follows the Platt family after a mysterious cosmic event rips their suburban neighborhood from reality and transports it somewhere unknown. As terrifying creatures begin to emerge, the family must fight to survive in a world that no longer makes sense.
The film is produced by J.J. Abrams and Hannah Minghella through Bad Robot.
