Producer Brad Fuller, known for his work on “A Quiet Place,” brings forth the sci-fi thriller “The Astronaut,” with a tantalizing first look image featuring star Kate Mara (“The Martian,” “American Horror Story”), suggesting an intense cinematic experience ahead.

Alongside Mara, the cast includes Laurence Fishburne (“John Wick” films, “The Matrix” trilogy, “Event Horizon”) and Gabriel Luna (“Terminator: Dark Fate,” “The Last Of Us”).

In “The Astronaut,” astronaut Sam Walker (Mara) returns from her inaugural space mission, miraculously surviving in a punctured capsule discovered deep in the Atlantic Ocean. Anticipating a reunion with her husband (Luna), she instead finds herself under rigorous NASA surveillance, confined to a high-security residence for rehabilitation and medical examination, overseen by General William Harris (Fishburne). However, as unsettling events unfold on the premises, Walker begins to suspect that something extraterrestrial has trailed her back to Earth.

The screenplay for this sci-fi thriller comes from writer-director Jess Varley (“Phobias”), marking her solo debut in both roles.

Produced by Fuller Media’s Brad Fuller and Cameron Fuller, alongside Wonder Company’s Eric B. Fleischman and Chris Abernathy, “The Astronaut” holds personal significance for Varley. “This story is very close to my heart, and I’m profoundly grateful it’s resonated with such an immensely accomplished team of creatives,” Varley expressed. Notably, Emma Roberts was initially cast as Sam Walker, with Mara stepping into the role later on, prior to the film’s production in Ireland.

Currently in post-production, “The Astronaut” promises to deliver a gripping sci-fi narrative. Stay tuned for further updates on this thrilling cinematic venture.
