Taron Egerton in Talks for ‘Alpha’, a Brutal Mashup of Slasher Psychosis and Werewolf Terror
Netflix UK has won a heated bidding war for the genre shocker Alpha, and Deadline reports that Carry-On star Taron Egerton is currently being “circled” for the lead role.
Early word paints Alpha as a “fun, sexy, elevated genre nightmare” diving into toxic masculinity, unchecked greed, and the myth of success — imagine American Psycho colliding with HBO Max’s Industry before spiraling into An American Werewolf in London territory.
The film follows “a mild-mannered American analyst climbing the ranks inside a cutthroat London investment firm, only to uncover something far worse than corporate brutality: the ravenous monster awakening inside him.”
Corporate ladder meets literal carnage.
The project comes from producers Adam Goldworm’s Aperture Entertainment and Tory Tunnell & Joby Harold’s Safehouse, with Goldworm also behind upcoming titles like Ankle Snatcher (Sony), How to Sell a Haunted House (Legendary), and The Swallow from Pet Sematary duo Dennis Widmyer & Kevin Kölsch.
Egerton, meanwhile, already has another Netflix release on the horizon: Apex, a survival thriller pitched as Free Solo meets Silence of the Lambs, co-starring Charlize Theron.
For now, horror fans will have to wait for more Alpha updates — including whether the film sticks with its title, as Julia Ducournau’s long-awaited feature Alpha still hasn’t secured a U.S. release.
Stay tuned.
